Course uses gambling techniques to stack odds in trader's favor

NEW -- Opportunities in Options offers a new book and video course authored by company president David Caplan called Trade Like a Bookie. The course describes how casinos, insurance companies and professional bookies stack the odds in their favor. It explains step by step how individuals can use these principles to recognize situations in which the odds are in their favor.

In the book, Caplan profiles successful traders who were former professional poker, bridge and chess players. The book asserts that the probability theories involved in playing gambling-type games can be used successfully in playing the markets.

Other books by Caplan include The Options Advantage , The Option Secret and The New Options Advantage. Caplan is also editor of the Opportunities in Options monthly newsletter.

Stock screening program whizzes through searches

UPGRADE -- i-Soft has released the Stock Wiz Pro 5.0 stock screening program. Stock Wiz Pro uses a new way of storing time-series data to provide more efficient and speedy searches. The data storage technology used by Stock Wiz compresses the data in such a way that decompression isn't required when reading the data. Thus, fewer bytes of information need to be processed.

New features in version 5.0 include the ability to write MetaStock-format files; the ability to define indices from an unlimited number of stocks; automatic data downloading; and automatic issuing of buy and sell signals. In addition, new indicators have been added for use in charting and screening.

Stock Wiz 5.0 costs $79.95. The program ships on CD-ROM, a 100 MB Zip disk or 17 3.5-inch disks. It includes daily prices for the last three years on more than 8,000 US stocks traded on the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ. Daily data updates cost $9.95 per month for stocks, $4.95 per month for mutual funds. A free demo is available for download from the Internet in the file Sw5Demo.Exe.
