Server switch runs computers remotely from different platforms

NEW -- Network Technologies has released a new line of server switches that consolidates control of two computers operating on different platforms to one keyboard, mouse and multisync monitor. Thus, the user can instantly switch between two computers of different platforms, such as PC, Sun or Macintosh.

Signal translating programming enables the keyboard and mouse from one type of computer to operate another type of computer. Autoboot circuitry emulates keyboard and mouse presence 100% of the time, so both computers can boot error free. Lights on the front panel show which computer is selected. A multisync VGA monitor is required.

The switch costs $750 and comes with a one-year warranty.

Exchange in Russia sees record volume

FYI -- In 1996, the Russian Exchange tripled its trading volume over that of 1995. The growing exchange uses the open outcry system as well as electronic off-floor trading. Plans are also under way to install electronic trading workstations off the premises, particularly to better serve international traders.

In addition to open outcry, workstations for electronic trading surround the trading pit for traders entering their own orders. The electronic traders are usually large traders. Still other traders trade from terminals installed in upstairs offices at the exchange.

The Dow Jones Guide to the World Stock Market, 1996 edition (1996, 761 pages, $34.95 softcover), by the editors of Dow Jones & Company with an introduction by John A. Prestbo, editor of the Dow Jones World Stock Index, is an almanac of sorts published yearly by Prentice Hall in association with Morningstar. This is a reference book filled with fundamental data on nearly 2,700 stocks in 29 countries throughout the world. Of course, it's not a book to be kept on your bedside table and read cover to cover, but if you're interested in investing on a worldwide scale, then reading at least the introductions to each of the chapters would be a very worthwhile endeavor. The chapter introductions for each country are written by Dow Jones business correspondents who live in those countries and have the opportunity to continuously observe the markets they report on.

This book lists the names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, top officers, industry and business affiliations and some of the most important economic data for each company included in the Dow Jones World Stock Index. It also includes three years of financial results on each company's revenues, earnings, dividends, stock prices and other categories. This guide is cross-indexed both alphabetically and by industry group to make it quick and easy to get to the information you need.
