Internet-based trading for commodity traders

FYI -- Online futures broker NetFutures.com now offers commodity traders the increased flexibility of trading online via their Web browser. That's in addition to the software-based trading NetFutures.com has offered since 1997. Matheny Enterprises announces new TradeStation and SuperCharts trading system modules

NEW -- Matheny Enterprises has launched four new specialized trading systems for Omega Research's TradeStation and SuperCharts. The new trading systems were developed jointly with Samuel Tennis of Vista Research. The four new trading models are based on specialized trading libraries developed by Brad Matheny of Matheny Enterprises and Geert Strubbe. The trading tools will provide users with a methodology for automatically generating buy and sell signals from within SuperCharts and TradeStation.
  • The Trending Candle/Body Reversal Trading Library -- This system tracks the market's ability to trend and issues multiple buy and sell signals and trailing protective stop levels. Because this trading system tracks the market's ability to trend, it's ideal for intraday traders as well as end-of-day traders.
  • The Adjusted Stop Level Breakout Trading Library -- This system for intraday or end-of-day traders uses advanced trading bands, called the ASL levels, to identify market breakout scenarios. It issues detailed buy and sell signals and suggests stop placement and trailing levels.
  • The Balanced Length Averaged Movement Trading Library -- This system uses multiple moving averages and logic to determine potential breakout scenarios in any market. It issues detailed buy and sell signals and suggests stop placement levels and trailing levels.
  • The BLM Technical Indicator Trading Library -- This system uses specialized indicators that combine a simple moving average, exponential moving averages, and logic to produce a consensus indicator of the Western technical indicators. This library then uses the BLM indicators to generate detailed buy and sell signals and warn of market reversals.

New software determines whether market is trending or cycling

NEW -- Mesa Software has released MESA2000 for TradeStation2000i. MESA2000, a collection of unique indicators, provides a 10-bar prediction into the future using TradeStation's probability map. The prediction is easily backtested by clicking on a price bar of interest.

In addition to measuring cycles in the data, MESA2000 provides adaptive indicators to aid your trading. These include the sinewave indicator, the instantaneous trendline, and paintbars showing whether the market is in a trend or cycle mode.

The quality of the cycle measurements can be assessed by examining the stationarity of the dominant cycle, the spread of the spectral contour lines, and the consistency of the cycle phase.

The standalone version of MESA2000 costs $350. MESA2000 for NeuroShell Trader is $350; for TradeStation2000i, $495; for TradeStation 4.0, $495; for SuperCharts, $250.

Technical analysis software offers system testing

UPGRADE -- Tarn Software has released version 2.1 of Byte Into The Market software for system testing, technical analysis, and charting. The software emphasizes a mechanical trading approach.

Byte Into The Market features:

  • Complete trade system editing, testing, reporting, and optimization capability
  • Graphical drag-and-drop icon editors to make programming easier
  • Design, testing, and implementation of systems that use end-of-day data but enter intraday at specific stop and limit order pricing
  • Automated testing of a trade system on an entire portfolio of securities to aid in assessing a system's performance while avoiding curve-fitting systems to specific data
  • Stock screening to narrow the field of possible trading candidates
  • Library of sample custom formulas, screens, and trading systems
  • Automatic support and resistance levels and pattern recognition algorithms for both charting and use in systems and formulas
  • Intraday quote feature to allow the user to keep daily charts current during the trading day.
Byte Into The Market uses end-of-day data in ASCII text, Quotes Plus, MetaStock (255 and 2000 security per directory) and TC2000 formats. Tarn Software offers fully functional 30-day trials from the www.tarnsoft.com Website.

New features intended to improve ease of use include a full set of charting tools, right-click context menus, and mousewheel support (to scroll through open charts or sequentially apply securities to a particular chart layout). Byte Into The Market now supports multiple application windows to allow the analyst to run scans, screens, and automated system tests in one or more windows while continuing analysis and charting work in another application window. Multichart workspaces that can be saved to and opened from disk for better organization have also been added. To increase the power/flexibility of the trade system editor and tester, mixing stop and limit orders in a system entry/exit rule can now be programmed. The maximum size of coded statements in the editor windows has been dramatically increased (2,000%).

Tarn Software has also announced that integration of margin and leverage into the system tester will be added to support futures traders in the next Byte Into The Market release.

One of several key features of MDK is the MetaStock File Library, which allows experienced programmers and third-party developers to create their own applications that directly access MetaStock price data.
