UPGRADE -- Elite is an upgraded version of TradeCast software, previously available only to professional traders and used to execute up to 35,000 trades a day. Elite gives traders instant access to vital market information such as Nasdaq Level II quotes, market-maker data, and news from Dow Jones -- all in real-time. It allows executions of complex trades, such as selling short, issuing basket and stop orders, and reviewing option pricing. Elite is software-based, whereas most online brokers use Web browsers to execute trades.
The cost is about $180 per month plus exchange fees. Order fees are additional and decline in price as trade volume increases. For those making more than 50 trades per month, the $180 fee is waived. For the at-home trader, TradeCast has unveiled Revolution, powerful yet easier-to-use software. Revolution gives traders a direct connection to buyers and sellers of stocks, allowing transactions to be made right away. Orders are routed directly through TradeCast to the exchanges, which bypasses the traffic jams that can occur on many Internet servers when using Web browsers to trade. Orders and conformations can take place in fractions of a second. Streaming data is sent to the user's desktop. There is a ticker at the top that constantly updates up to 50 stocks. The rest of the screen is divided into quadrants that display an order entry area, a personal portfolio area, an alert, and Top Ten Tickers, and the S&P MarketScope Headline News and stocks to watch in real time. To address concerns about reliability, TradeCast has built a state-of-the-art server room with multiple backups for every function, including generators in case of power outages. Revolution has no monthly usage fee. Opening an account requires at least $1,000 and per-trade fees. That fee drops as the number of trades increases. Enhancements such as Nasdaq Level II can be added for a monthly fee. 5555 San Felipe, Suite 575 |

John Bollinger's EquityTrader investor service, launched in 1998, has been revamped. The charts have been revised to be cleaner and easier to use. A bar has been added that displays the historical ratings on each chart for how accurate the model has been for the security, and a personal portfolio section has been added. In addition, the help area makes it clearer to the user how to best utilize the site.
This free service, www.equitytrader.com, now rates 3,300 stocks in two dimensions: how they have done in the past, and how they are expected to perform in the future. Bollinger developed this site to employ a "fuzzy logic" engine to evaluate 54 rules that determine a stock's potential return rating using both fundamental and technical factors. A priority in the siteÕs development was ease of use. The site is on one page and the graphics have been kept simple to minimize download time, yet still can be customized to meet user preferences.
