TECHNICAL INDICATORS FOR EXCEL

TechniCell80, an Excel add-in from Jurik Research that provides 80 technical indicators for spreadsheets, also comes in a limited-use, free trial version.

Many applications can export their chart data to Excel, placing each time series in a separate column. TechniCell80 can process time-series data in any market, and in any time frame. All results are placed in user-specified spreadsheet columns, and can then be exported as text files and via DDE to applications that import data from Excel spreadsheets. This is perfect for preprocessing market data for trading systems and forecast models.

TechniCell80 provides a basic command menu for accessing all 80 indicators. Although the user can specify all parameter values, popular defaults are provided for quick access.

Jurik Research is now offering a trial version of the TechniCell80 indicator toolkit for Excel 97 and Excel 2000.

WEBSITE NEWS FOR INVESTORS

Pristine.com, an online educational site for the self-directed active trader and investor, announced the availability of real-time news alerts powered by Newsalert.com, free to those who register.

Delivered through E-mail and available on the Website via ticker search, these features allow the ability to search for pertinent news and headlines by ticker symbol. In addition, users may create a portfolio of stocks that will be automatically scanned throughout the day for news and headlines. Should the scan detect pertinent information, an E-mail will then be sent to the registered user regarding the specific news item. With this capability, Pristine.com members can simply wait for news to be delivered instead of searching for it on a daily basis.

In addition, Pristine.com has also partnered with Stockmaster.com to provide its members with free access to additional analytical and monitoring tools. Services include stock quotes, comprehensive charts, advanced portfolio tracking, research, SEC filings, company profiles and earnings history.

In other news, "Swing Trading With Oliver Velez" is a presentation from Pristine Day Trader founder Oliver Velez on swing trading, available on a 90-minute video or 90-minute audio tape, and accompanied by an online companion manual. In the video/audio presentation, Velez discusses the proprietary techniques that the Pristine staff have developed. The presentation includes an introduction to swing trading; how to spot opportunities using swing trading criteria; key setups and using moving averages; and chart reading, especially candlestick charts.

The video is $99; the audio tape is $12.95.  They can be ordered from Pristine's Website or from https://www.invest-store.com/cgi-bin/pristine-bin/moreinfo.cgi?division=books&item=11356.

OPTIONS VOLATILITY INFORMATION

iVolatility.com has launched a Website providing volatility information for every optionable stock in the US. iVolatility's database offers historical and implied volatility data. Using data mining and filtering, each day the system converts all the options prices for a stock into three proprietary implied volatility indices. These indices are correctly factored to enable meaningful historical analysis of implied volatility.

With iVolatility, users can get analysis of single stocks and look at such factors as historical volatility; mean implied volatility; implied volatility for puts and calls; correlation to the S&P 500; and an options pricing grid with theoretical values and deltas. The site ranks stocks by a variety of measures, helping investors to identify option trading opportunities. It also provides an options pricing calculator.

Users can group favorite stocks and take advantage of the help and education section on related topics. The site will soon offer a daily commentary column on volatility analysis, a weekly strategy section, and portfolio analysis.

The site is free for a limited time.

OPTIONS CALCULATIONS

Option Wizard Online add-in for Microsoft Excel has added new one-click functions to its program. Buttons have been added to download historical volatilities for stocks, and to calculate implied volatility; the next 36 stock option expirations in a drop-down box; and percent to double and option profit/loss for 22 stock option positions, from simple to complex.

Historical volatilities -- including a 20-, 50- and 100-day and a current implied volatility -- can be downloaded from OptionStrategist.com. Option Wizard Online then processes the 3,500 rows of data to link with any ticker symbol the user chooses -- with a one-button click. Next, the user downloads the options chains. Enter the option price and click to calculate implied volatility. Option Wizard calculates the implied volatility posted directly above the historical volatilities to make it easier to determine whether your option is under-, over- or fairly priced. Option Wizard then calculates the next 36 stock prices.

The user selects his strike from the drop-down box. Similarly, Option Wizard calculates percent-to-double with one button click -- that is, the percent that the underlying must move for the option price to double. To analyze the profit/loss picture on any options position, the user clicks the appropriate button, then edits the sample data to match his position. Profit/loss is shown in table and chart form.

The Option Wizard Trading Method QuickGuide may be downloaded as an Acrobat document from https://option-wizard.com/OWOQG.pdf.

SECTOR RESEARCH

SECTORBASE.com has launched SectorEngine, an enhancement to its Website focused on sector investing.

SectorEngine is a Java-enabled platform that allows registered users access to SECTORBASE.com's proprietary sector indices that are calculated continuously throughout the trading day.

With this application, users can trace price movements in an industry, sector, or group and determine what product areas are moving that particular market. For example, if a semiconductor company announces the launch of a new technology during the trading day, SectorEngine can follow how the corresponding price movements of that company and its competitors affect the sector as a whole.

Indices are sorted by sector, gainers, decliners, and most active, and users can choose particular indices and create their own customized list in an area called MySectorEngine. With delayed equity prices updating the indices continuously, users can view last value, daily change, 52-week high/low, as well as the percent change rank for today, last month, last three months, and year-to-date.

SECTORBASE.com's 15,000 product- and service-specific indices are calculated on an arithmetic, geometric, or market capitalization-weighted basis. Currently, SECTORBASE.com closely follows the finance, healthcare, media, and technology sectors.

HEATMAPS

NeoVision Hypersystems, a provider of visual intelligence software solutions for the financial services industry, offers an Internet-delivered software solution, Snapshot WebHeatmaps, enabling information and broker sites to integrate Heatmaps technology into their online services.

Snapshot WebHeatmaps is designed primarily for daytraders and retail investors, who can quickly access large amounts of financial market information and positioning in real time over the Internet using a standard browser.

Heatmaps are live pictures that organize large amounts of financial market information and positions it into colored cells or spots. The graphic format is designed to be easier to recognize than text-based financial information. Snapshot WebHeatmaps processes this financial information and outputs a Heatmap display as an HTML/DHTML/JavaScript that can be embedded into other Website content. Since browsers already know how to render HTML, unlike Java, no download occurs and investors can see a Heatmap instantaneously.

WebHeatmaps take advantage of large amounts of time-sensitive financial information from numerous real-time data vendors such as Bloomberg, Bridge, Data Broadcasting Corp., Reuters, and TIBCO, presenting the information through visual interfaces. Heatmaps organize financial information into a matrix of cells. The color of each cell is determined by custom analysis that is applied to the matrix. As Heatmaps receive information from real-time datafeeds, the color and intensity of the cells change relative to each other.

Snapshot WebHeatmaps can be accessed at FlexTrader.com, an investor research Website. FlexTrader.com offers more than 20 technical trading systems that can be backtested, as well as detailed graphing and charting, market news, and fundamental research. FlexTrader.com provides its subscribers with buy/sell alerts through E-mail and wireless paging devices.

Portfolio Advisory Services, together with Internet content company Quarx.com, launched earlier this year MarketBUG.com, a stock market trading resource on the Web offering proprietary trading models, signals, and insights from portfolio manager Cedd Moses. The site also offers intraday trading alerts.
